Illinois 51st & Failing
The House and the Senate passed a budget that maintained existing funding for community service providers and had some growth for expansion of services. The governor, however, saw fit to cut community services (grants and purchase of care) by two percent and line item veto the funding for expansion of services. Subsequently, the Governor’s office has also asked state agency personnel to develop plans for making additional cuts equal to a 3% reserve on spending. Currently, we are uncertain how this will affect Sparc. Be sure to check back as we will keep you informed of any budget updates and what action you can take to help.
