On August 4, Sparc hosted its 8th annual Starry Night fundraiser
at the Springfield Hilton Hotel. Nearly 230 people attended with
the shared purpose of raising money to help expand Sparc’s
Success Center Program. This program provides training through
the computer laboratory, clerical center, hotel room, daycare
center, retail center, and the Café Success Diner. In addition,
participants of the Success Center Program are taught to fill out
job applications, practice interview skills, design their own resume
and learn appropriate social and professional skills.
The collective spirit for this goal resulted a net of $24,000 that
will be used to expand the program by providing additional much
needed space.
We would like to extend our thanks to our major sponsors, INB
and Watts Copy Systems. In addition, we would like to express
our gratitude to Hart-Clayton, Inc, AIG American General, ABC
NewsChannel 20, the Hilton Hotel and the businesses who
sponsored tables and donated quality auction items for their
significant support. This year’s Red Carpet activity was a big
success thanks to Bella Boutique, Seno Formal Wear, Lea
Kaydus and Pat Phalen. We are very grateful to ABC
NewsChannel 20 anchors Julie Staley and Jerry Lambert for their
masterful job as co-emcees of the entire event.
As a result of Sparc’s partnership with Springfield businesses and
the tremendous amount of support from those in the Springfield
community, individuals with developmental disabilities are able to
obtain a job and become a productive member of our community.
