Sparc Quick Facts:
Founded in 1951 by a group of parents of individuals with developmental disabilities
Sparc is short for Springfield Arc, Inc.
Sparc supports children, adults, and seniors with developmental disabilities, including autism, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and other conditions similar to those caused by mental retardation and require similar services and intervention. Such disabilities must have occurred during the developmental years, expected to continue indefinitely, and present substantial challenges.
Sparc's main programs are 24-hour Residential Support, Developmental Training, Supported Living, Supported Employment, Family Support Services, and the Epilepsy Resource Center.
Individuals supported by Sparc work at more than 40 organizations and businesses in the Springfield area.
Individuals in the contract work areas earn a paycheck every two weeks by doing clerical, small assembly projects, and mailings for local businesses and state agencies. Contracts are secured through a competitive process based on price and quality.
Sparc operates 15 Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILAs), more commonly known as group homes.
Sparc is a certified United Way agency.
Sparc is accredited by CARF, the national accrediting body for rehabilitation facilities.
Almost 90 percent of contributions go to programs that directly support individuals with developmental disabilities.
Mission: Sparc helps individuals with developmental disabilities improve the quality of their lives
